The dark chocolate base — warm, enveloping, rich like autumn wet earth — hosts the same pictorial landscape print: medieval villages, Gothic bell towers, houses with sloping roofs, centuries-old trees reflected in the still water of a canal. But on this dark background, the color palette acquires a dramatic depth that is entirely new — greens become more intense, ochres warmer, grays more mysterious, in an overall effect reminiscent of the great nocturnal landscapes of 17th-century Flemish painting.
